Key ingredients for neck lines and sagginess treatment
Arguably dermatologists' favorite retinoid, tretinoin is *the* ingredient of skin rejuvenation. Dozens of studies back up its ability to stimulate new collagen and cell turnover to shrink fine lines and wrinkles and spark cellular repair. As compared to over-the-counter retinol in treating aging skin, studies show tretinoin is 10 to 20 times more effective. (Mic drop.)
0.01% - 0.02% Concentration Range
It's like a stop sign for melanin, the pigment that causes unwanted marks and blotches. By interfering with melanin production, it creates a glowier, more even-toned surface.
2% Concentration
A derivative of hydroquinone, it has a similar résumé—inhibits tyrosinase (a key enzyme in the production of melanin), evens out tone, and brightens—but with a gentle touch, thanks to its slower release and anti-inflammatory properties. Plus, it's an antioxidant, neutralizing skin-damaging free radicals from the sun and pollution.
0.5% - 1% Concentration Range
A type of vitamin B3 and an antioxidant, niacinamide can minimize blotches and sallowness while reducing inflammation. By increasing the production of skin lipids like fatty acids, it helps shore up skin's barrier.
2% - 2.5% Concentration Range
Strings of amino acids, peptides are well-known (and well-loved) for their skin-renewing abilities. This patented blend has two—palmitoyl tripeptide-1 and palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7—that are known as signal, or messenger, peptides. They tell skin's fibroblasts to pump out more collagen and elastin, helping decrease wrinkle depth. Matrixyl 3000 also contains glycerin, an excellent moisturizer.
2% Concentration
These lipids are naturally found in the skin; adding more fortifies the barrier that keeps irritants out and good stuff (hydration, mostly) in. They're a safeguard against external damage that can age skin—not to mention anti-inflammatory, so they're great for calming irritation.
1% - 1.5% Concentration Range
Found naturally in plants such as red grapes, this powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory protects against environmental stress and soothes irritation.
1% Concentration
Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a humectant, which means it attracts and draws water into skin. There are two kinds of HA: low molecular weight HA (smaller molecules that penetrate the skin's surface for serious hydration) and high molecular weight HA (these sit on skin's surface for immediate moisture and plumping effects). All Cottonball products contain both types.
0.5% Concentration
This sugar-derived humectant binds water to the skin, ensuring a flow of moisture that helps prevent dehydration. As an antioxidant, it wards off oxidative stress from free radicals, those pesky skin-aging atoms from the sun and other environmental aggressors.

    In the evening, clean your neck and décolletage with a gentle cleanser, and dry it. After at least 15 minutes, apply 2 pumps (a dime-size amount), starting at the chest and working upward. Be sure to smooth it on in upward strokes on the neck to encourage lifting.

    Start with 2-3 nights per week on non-consecutive nights. If your skin is tolerating the formula well after 2 weeks, increase to 4 nights a week for 1 to 2 weeks, then 5 nights a week for another week, gradually following this pattern until you get to nightly use. If nightly use causes dryness or irritation, stop using the cream for 1 week, and then resume with less frequency.

    Follow with a gentle moisturizer to maintain hydration and further support the skin barrier.

    During the day, always wear SPF 30+, as tretinoin makes skin more sensitive to sun exposure.

Can a neck cream really do anything for sagging?

The active ingredients in VX.6 reduce fine lines and wrinkles, pigmentation issues, and dryness. Thanks to their collagen-stimulating and plumping benefits, VX.6 can also noticeably firm and tighten skin. That said, no topical cream can address serious sagging.

I know neck skin is thin. Is tretinoin going to irritate it?

The low tretinoin concentration (0.01%- 0.02%) in VX.6 is designed to achieve the benefits of a retinoid while reducing the risk of neck irritation. Despite this, some people may experience dry, flaky and/or red irritated skin. That's why we always recommend starting off slow and building up usage to make negative side effects less likely. Until your skin adapts, you can also use less product on fewer days and apply a basic moisturizer on top. For any continuing issues, our dermatologists are available to answer questions or reformulate your product through your member account.

I have horizontal neck lines—will VX.6 help with those?

Yes, VX.6 can reduce vertical or horizontal fine lines and wrinkles. If you want to fully remove deeper-set creases or folds, in-office treatments—vs topical therapies—may be required.

Is there any health reason someone shouldn't use VX.6?

If you are pregnant or nursing, you should not use products that contain tretinoin, found in VX.6. Anyone with a known allergy or irritation to any of the ingredients should also avoid VX.6. See more in our safety information.

How long do I use this product?

VX.6 is designed to safely use continuously. You should see significant benefits at month 3 and even more at month 6. You can stop whenever you want, but people see the best results with ongoing use.

When can I expect to see results?

Matrixyl 3000, along with other ingredients in the formula, will improve skin hydration, softness, texture and radiance instantly. You'll see more noticeable changes in the first 2 months, with significant anti-wrinkle, anti-spot, pro-firming benefits around 3 months.
